PART I: 

UNDERSTANDING THE MEDIUM OF FILM & SOUND


The workshop will focus on understanding what is a film? what does the medium entail? what are its complexities and spheres of influence? what is the role of sound and music in film? how do they complement the medium of film?


The workshop will focus on understanding and exploring:

» the medium of film -- how an idea is transformed into a visual story
» different kinds of cinema - documentary, independent, mainstream
» the relationship between media and society. Who determines content, treatment; are films reflective of a society, or the other way around?
» social or creative engagement today / experiments in independent film making today
» the role of sound and music in film

Part II: 

VIDEO FILM-MAKING & TECHNOLOGYfilmcrew


With developments in digital media, tremendous possibilities for video film making have emerged. With resources such as a Handy Cam and a computer, great films are taking shape. This workshop intends to cater to the gap between resources and the desire to make a film. It seeks to develop skills, from how to shoot, to how to use sound and make films with a video camera.




This workshop will look at:

- Different components of film-making: what all comes together to make a film, sound, light, direction, dialogue, script, background sound etc.

» Scripting and story boarding
» Understanding film technology – digital and analog media, sound and light
» Visual aesthetics
» How to use a camera – basics of photography and video
» Shooting short films, viewing footage (In-Camera-Edits), video editing

The participants would be engaged in making a short film during the workshop.


Who it’s for: Anybody with an interest in films, film-making and music. Students, individuals, NGOs, aspiring film-makers. and whosoever is keen on exploring making films with just a camera and a PC, and is looking to understand some fundamentals on how to go about it. 



Methodology: Film screenings, discussions, hands-on exercises of shooting and experimenting with light, sound and music.



Ankit Pogula, an Independent film-maker based out of Delhi has been engaging with youth groups on issues of Development, Identity, Environment, Self and Media for the last 4 years. He often extends these engagements into film-making processes, where the participants take these films back to their spaces for sharing and further engagement there. He seeks to draw linkages between our own lives and larger phenomena happening around the world.



Venue: International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, India.


The workshop fee (inclusive of full boarding and lodging, workshop materials) is Rs 4000 .
